PAULO VALE
It all started for Paulo Vale at the age of 24, when he won first prize for a public monument in Lisbon, which enabled him to open his own studio, purchase materials and develop his own tools and techniques in the production of small scale objects and sculptures.
Vale is known for experimenting with new technologies and materials. and for creating a unique quality and look to his products. His Beta handles, made of stainless steel incorporate a 'beta-light' which glows in the dark which as Paulo says "leads you in the dark towards the exit, making you find the way out in an effective and beautiful way".
Another witty solution to a mundane product is his unique interpretation of the oriental chopstick, where the set contains paradoxically a fork and knife that are moulded in the shape of chopsticks, fusing the occidental with the oriental, allowing the 'Westener' to comfortably handle oriental food. Vale named the chopsticks set 'O2' ('double O') in reference to the two cultures.
